1. Opus.
Situated in the Sathon enclave of Bangkok is Opus. A more formal dining affair that boasts an impressive wine cellar making it ideal for just a drink if that it what you fancy. The fare is traditional Italian and with generous portion sizes so make sure you arrive with an empty stomach. The tapas platter causes a particular stir thanks to the assortment of shrimp, calamari and tenderloin. But if you aren’t sure what to pick then call upon the expertise of the knowledgeable staff who are always on hand.
2. Peppina.
If pizza is what you are after then head to Peppina in Sukhumvit. Decked out with a modern interior with an industrial twist, this popular haunt is nestled on Sukhumvit soi 33 between Asoke and Phrom Phong. There is good reason people travel far to come and indulge in Peppina’s menu with the vast choice in antipastis, pastas and of course pizzas. Dubbing itself as a being the home of real Neapolitan pizza, this is one place to get your dough fix. For something a bit more fun try the truffle variety.
3. Appia.
Bangkok is not a likely place to feel like you are dining in an Italian trattoria. But Appia, just round the corner from Peppina, hits the spot. Suited to those who want to indulge in the ‘Roman family recipes’ in true Italian style – from the heart. Pasta is made in house, as is the freshly baked bread. You will be hard pressed to decide between cioppino, a seafood stew, or the slow-roasted Australian lambs ribs marinated in rosemary and garlic. Either way, you will leave Appia feeling full and satisfied.
4. Jojo
If you want somewhere even more special, then opt for Jojo at the St Regis Hotel next to Ratchadamri BTS station. The chic decor is complemented by the aromas wafting from the wood-fired pizzas. There is a big emphasis on food cooked at a slow pace with plenty of homemade pastas to pick from. The construction of dishes is fascinating with options such as chicken live pate served on brioche bread, and zibibbo wine gelatin. This is Italian fine dining where every dish is served elegantly like a piece of art.
