Thailand offers some stunning places to view the setting sun, but this property in Wales, United Kingdom, must surely rank as one of the best places in the world to watch the sunset.
One of Britain’s online estate agent, eMoov.co.uk, have listing the property that may just have the best location in the world when enjoying the last rays of the days sunshine.
Built in 1903, Crown Lodge is a magnificent Grade II listed stone building, set in the middle of extensive grounds with commanding panoramic views. It was commissioned as a prestigious home for William Henry More, the Crown Agent for Wales, and the property is thought to have been designed by the renowned Scottish Arts and Crafts architect George Walton.
The property has long been recognised for the outstanding scenery in which it is situated, with 360 degree views guaranteed to take your breath away.
In the 1940s when the property was operating as a hotel. At that time the sales brochure highlighted: “The view from the principal rooms and the terrace is acknowledged by artists and writers to be the finest in Wales, embracing Cardigan Bay and Caernarvonshire Mountains including Snowdon.”
Current owners, Jenny and Jeff Brown, immediately fell in love with Crown Lodge and the Harlech area. “To our minds, the view over Cardigan Bay to the Llŷn peninsula beyond, particularly at sunset, is one of the most beautiful in the world. The whole area is astoundingly beautiful and people are so friendly, it is a real privilege to be in such a special place.”
Jenny and Jeff bought Crowne Lodge as part of their semi-retirement plan, with the intention of running one half of the property as a guest house.
“When we arrived, Crown Lodge had been rather neglected, some areas of the grounds hadn’t been maintained for decades, so the trees in front of the property had obstructed the sea view from the terrace completely.
“One of the first things we did was to clear the vegetation to reopen the panorama; a massive job. But once done, many local residents remarked on how pleased they were to see the house from the beach and golf course for the first time.”
The natural landscape and close proximity to the Royal St David’s Golf Club, coupled with the lack of guest accommodation in Harlech, means the reopening of such a property would no doubt be a success. Unfortunately for Jenny and Jeff life has now led them down a different path, as it often does, so Crown Lodge is back on the market.
“We will be extremely sad to leave Crown Lodge behind, but hope that whoever takes it over will enjoy its location as much as we have. Watching the sunset here really is a unique experience, with no two ever the same. It is certainly one aspect that makes this property so special.”
Crown Lodge is currently on the market with eMoov.co.uk at £550,000 (just short of THB 29 million at today’s exchange rates, although it is hard to put a price on such an idyllic location.
