I’m sitting on a comfy circular couch, sipping a fresh-squeezed lemon soda drink in front of one of the most stunning views I have seen thus far in Thailand. I think that for a really spectacular view there needs to be an element of elevation, natural landscape and a lot of blue. The villa I’m at now, Samujana, has got this covered, and I couldn’t be more content with my “office” today.
Samujana, known as “the most exclusive” property development in Koh Samui is my home for the weekend. I landed at the Samui airport last night at 10:20 p.m. and was literally greeted by the welcoming staff of my particular villa at exactly 10:30 p.m.. A refreshing face cloth, beverage and midnight snacks were offered (although I wasn’t hungry– Bangkok Airways feeds you, even on just a 50-minute flight from Bangkok), before I was left to enjoy the villa.
I do happen to be here alone, however even if I had ten or more friends staying with me I may not have even noticed. There are lots of places to go in this five-bedroom seaside mansion. Of course there’s the open-air living and dining room, kitchen and media room, gym, etc., but there’s also the cushiony semi-circular lounge area that hangs over the edge of the cliff, a cinema (yes, a cinema) downstairs, an expansive terrace upstairs overlooking the bay, and all five corners of the “L” shaped infinity pool to hide in.
It’s a big place for just me, but still a wonderfully relaxing and luxurious place to spend time on my own. A dip in the pool under the stars while my favorite music played over the villa-wide sound system was enjoyable to say the least!
Rising and Shining at Samujana
This morning I woke up with the sun to the sound of the sea, and the smell of proper American-style bacon and poached eggs on toast (my weakness!). Along with some fresh fruit and espresso, I enjoyed this breakfast with Kurt Berman the General Manager and Amy Sutton, Samujana’s villa sales director, before touring the rest of the development.
While I didn’t get to see all of the villas due to full occupancy, I did get to explore the overall development. The entire project is built into the side of a cliff, incorporating the natural stone landscape and nature right into the plan (some are built around boulders, others with massive trees growing straight through the living areas). Each villa has either a grassy field or shallow pool on the roof, so when you are at the top of the development looking down, the project blends into the scene and gives the eye an interrupted view of the beautiful nature covering the island. At the bottom of the cliff, there are manicured lawns and nearly silent beaches that only the residents and the immediate neighbors can access.
Phase Two, Coming Soon! Bigger and Better than Ever
Later I got a tour of Phase Two, and as hard as it was to believe, each villa sounds like it will be more amazing than the next. For example, there is a villa so big it is going to have its own atrium and possibly a nightclub. I can only hope I get to see the villa which is at the highest elevation when it’s complete, so I can have a lounge in front of the 360-degree view of the island and everything beyond. I have to say, this was so far the highlight of my day—I could see Chaweng Beach, Choeng Mon and the Big Buddha in one direction, and then just turning my head around allowed me to see absolutely nothing but blue skies and an endless matching sea.
I’m thankful my stay isn’t over yet. Next thing I’m looking forward to having their chef cook dinner tonight for me and a couple of friends, and catching the sunset with a glass of wine. This is all part of the Samujana experience, which the lucky owners of each villa get to experience on a daily basis. Buying a Samujana property comes with all the perks of being in a private development, of course including the management, marketing and holiday rental teams as well as full-service staff at all times.
I suppose that means it’s time for me to order a massage?
