Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts recently announced the signing of a new addition to their global portfolio: Mövenpick Resort Laem Yai Beach Samui. The property, currently known as The Passage, Koh Samui Resort, will be re-branded and opened under Mövenpick management in November 2014. The signing marks the luxury hospitality brand’s third hotel in Thailand, alongside its Bangtao and Karon Beach resorts in Phuket.
Mövenpick Resort Laem Yai Beach Samui, comprised of deluxe rooms and villas, three swimming pools and many other amenities, occupies a key location on Laem Yai Beach. About 18 kilometres from Samui International Airport, the hotel also offers easy access to the port town of Nathorn.
Due to the company’s ongoing success in the Asian market, Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts is turning its attention increasingly to Thailand, with plans to operate five properties by 2015. Locations set to open next year include White Sand Beach, Pattaya and Chiang Mai, Suriwongse. Further projects in the country include resorts in Hua Hin and Chiang Mai, both scheduled to open in 2017.
Commenting on the importance of the Thai market, Andreas Mattmüller, Mövenpick’s Chief Operating Officer, Middle East & Asia, says, “This region is a significant development sector for our brand, with the country seeing a 19.6 percent increase in tourism for 2013; we believe our resort on Laem Yai Beach is a wonderful asset and offers great potential.”
