Expats are a special breed of people: we travel far and wide, and we do so often. We have friends around the globe, and often homes in multiple countries. We love technology that helps us stay connected to our ties to different places, and we know that there’s hardly a better feeling than being genuinely connected to something or someone you have no physical access to.
This is why expats in particular will be excited about this new technology by Asia Property Innovation: It’s called Door Bot and it lets you lock and unlock your home from anywhere in the world!
How does it work?
Well, it’s pretty easy if you’ve got a smart phone. If you opt for Door Bot, you will have a high-quality video camera installed by your front door that will show you a live-stream of who is at your door via an app on your phone when the person rings your high-tech “doorbell.” You can even talk through the app just like any other video-messaging app, so whether you’re on the other side of the planet or just too lazy to get off the couch upstairs this will come in handy because you can open the door that person by pressing a button.
As convenient safety is the main goal behind this app, of course you can also lock the door from the app at any time as well.
When would Door Bot come in handy? Here are just a few situations we can think of right off the bat:
- When you go stay at your house in Phuket but leave the cat at your condo in Bangkok and need your neighbor to feed it.
- When you lock your wallet inside the house.
- When you finally arrive in London and realize you’ve left the air conditioning on and ask a friend to turn it off.
- When you’re not feeling well and want to have your mother bring you chicken soup without having to get out of bed.
- When you’re watching an intense football game and cant tear your eyes from the screen, but a friend has just showed up to join in.
- When the cable guy comes three hours after his estimated arrival period.
- When you’re waiting for an important package and want the delivery guy to leave it on the back porch.
- When you can’t be home to meet your teenage kids after school one day.
- When you’ve got couch surfers staying with you and don’t want to give them a key.
- The list goes on!
