Interior design trends of 2016

Every year sees a new interior design trends, what ones have made an appearance in 2016 so far?

What a home looks like says a lot about the owner. Whether you are looking for a slick finish or more of an electric vibe there are some trends that have set the tone for the year so far. Take your pick of the five interior design trends of 2016 for you to consider if you are thinking about giving your property a makeover.

1. Colours

Gone are the days of pale, muted colours, well except grey that is! Less is certainly not more at the moment. Accent one wall with a different colour from the rest of your living room with a deep tone, petrol blue is a much loved choice. If that prospect is too scary for you, then why not paint your white woodwork a colour instead? Pick a dark shade of grey to frame the doorway or even paint your ceiling the same colour as the wall to create a really modern look.

2. Copper

Chrome is a popular choice for taps or accessories such as door handles, towel rails or toilet roll holders but copper is fast becoming the latest must have metal, particularly one that is matt in finish. Team it with marble tiles in the bathroom or a statement bath and you are well on your way to having a hotel style bathroom in the comfort of your own home.

3. Matt finishes

Shiny finishes are bright but require a lot of TLC to keep looking tip-top. Fingerprints quickly mark so avoid having to constantly buff by opting for a matt finish instead. Appliance manufacturers are taking note on this fashion and are producing black stainless steel ovens. Not only are they all the rage but they are a saviour to those pesky fingerprints too!

4. Wallpaper

Back once again is wallpaper! Love it or hate it, it quickly changes the look of a room and covers up poor plaster work too. In a range of designs and styles, wallpaper is really having a revival and there is something for everyone. It creates a whole new look without having to update or replace accessories.

5. Mix match

Changing the doors of your kitchen cabinet will instantly transform your kitchen. But if you fancy keeping up with the latest fashions or if your purse strings are a bit tight, then consider changing the doors on the units that are hung on the wall with a contrasting style or colour to the lower cabinets. This stark contrast is one of the interior design trends of 2016 that you should take note of.
