Clever storage solutions

Space might be tight but there is no need to have a purge of your belongings with these clever storage solutions.

As more and more people want to own their own property and the price of land increases, units have become smaller leaving you with less space to live in. In order to overcome the small spaces on offer, some clever storage solutions have been produced to maximise on space and help keep on top of your clutter.

1. Under bed

Either choose a bed that has space for you to fit your suitcase under the frame or pick a bed with storage features such as built in drawers or where you can lift up the mattress like a car bonnet to reveal some hidden storage space beneath. Some beds are so low lying that there is only just enough room for dust underneath. Take a peek beneath your bed to make the most of this dead space.

2. Shoes

Tradition in Thailand is to leave your shoes at the door. To save you clambering over your pile of shoes when you come home each day pick some shoe storage to neatly store all your footwear. Choose a shoe rack or there are even some clever drawer like solutions that are ultra slim is space is really tight where you slot your shoes in.

3. Clothes organisers

Limited space in your wardrobe or are you just a shopalcoholic? Don’t have enough room to hang all your clothes out individually? No problem. Get a hanging clothes organiser for your wardrobe that acts like a set of shelves that hangs off the clothes rail with the help of a coat hangers. Neatly fold your clothes away and if you are feeling really organised group them by type.

4. Bathrooms

If your sink sits on a pedestal and is surrounded with lots of empty space, fit shelves or build a cabinet around it to store your toiletries. Fit a towel rail to store your towels, and choose a mirror that doubles up as a cabinet. All these options will give you that added bit of storage in what is the usually the smallest room of the property.

5. Shelves

Shelves, shelves and more shelves. Where there is a wall there is a space for shelves. Fit them in a grid like layout to ensure that your shelves are not only practical but are also a feature too. Grouping books together in the same colour of their spine can make a real impact to the look of a bookshelf. Put them in the kitchen, in the hallway or even consider a bed with a wide bedhead for your to place your books and alarm clock on.

6. Clothes airer

If you don’t have a tumble drier to dry your clothes then consider a clothes airer such as a sheila maid or pulley maid that neatly fits to the ceiling. Pull it down to place your clothes on it and then pull it back up to keep you tripping over your drying laundry.
