Asia’s priciest pad is sold

What is being touted as the most expensive apartment to be sold in Asia has changed hands for HK$ 509.6 million – or the equivalent of THB 2.35 billion.

The 505 sqm luxury Presidential Unit is on the top floor of the Frank Gehry-designed Opus Hong Kong development (pictured). The apartment is reported to include four en-suite bathrooms, a study, two parking spaces and a powder room, according to developer Swire Properties.

It also features a private 140 sqm rooftop with a Jacuzzi. Perhaps most importantly, the buyer will have sweeping views of Hong Kong’s amazing skyline.

Hong Kong is Asia’s most expensive city in terms of property, but in terms of globally expensive properties it still trails London and New York where many of the world’s ultra-rich choose to invest their fortunes.

Hong Kong also ranks as the world’s least affordable city when residential property prices are compared to average incomes, according to UBS.

London retains the crown for the world’s most expensive apartment – a three-floor penthouse at One Hyde Park that was sold to a Ukrainian mining magnate in 2011 for a £136.4 million – or the equivalent of THB 7.4 billion today.
