Let the positive energy flow around your home with our feng shui tips.
As we embark on a new year there is no better time to have a bit of organisation at home. Plus as we approach Chinese New Year, this is the perfect time to take time to look how we can improve the flow of energy (known as chi) in our home through the traditional Chinese art of feng shui that aims to create a harmonious environment through the balance of yin and yang.
1. Eliminate any creaks.
Does your door squeak every time you open it sounding like it is crying? If so, this can influence your mood. Take some oil to it to ensure it improves the positive energy as you enter and leave your home. Your front door is the most vital door that needs addressing but take a look at your internal doors too.
2. Close the bathroom door.
Water is related to wealth so the idea of water being washed away raises concerns as people don’t want their money to be thrown down the drain. So keep the bathroom door closed and even the toilet seat down to reduce the loss of water, but don’t worry, water also comes back as its being drained so not everything is lost.
3. Check above your kitchen cabinets.
Good feng shui dictates that there should not be a gap between the top of your wall hung kitchen cabinets and the ceiling as this is the place where dust and stale energy can easily be stored. Chi is unable to escape this space so consider filling the space with green plants, any ornaments or lighting that are all able to transform the energy.
4. Consider the position of your bed.
The location of furniture is particularly important in feng shui especially with your bed seeing as we spend more than a third of our life asleep. Your bed should be in the ‘commanding position’. This means that when you are lying down in bed that you should be facing the door but you should also not be in line with the door. This can be hard to achieve so if required use a mirror to be able to see the door from your bed.
5. Television in the bedroom.
We live in a digital age where we love to have everything at our fingertips. Many of us try and switch off in the bedroom but if you cannot live without a television in your bedroom, then make sure you cover it up to avoid the television’s active energy being disruptive to a good night’s sleep.
6. Keep your windows clean.
Windows are the eyes to our world so keep them clean in order to help you visualise the world around us. This is a simple tip and will immediately help improve your outlook.
