Did you know? Expats can now rent furniture in Thailand

Are you buying or renting a house in Thailand? When it comes to moving abroad there’s an overwhelming number of things to think about. From sorting out visas and finances to determining where to send your kids to school, it’s not until late in the process that expats can even think about furnishing their future home.

But furniture is a major and inevitable consideration. Up until one year ago there were minimal furniture solutions for expatriates, including the following:

  1. Go through the expensive, time-consuming process of shipping furniture overseas
  2. Settle for a less-than-perfect apartment or house simply because it comes furnished
  3. Take the risk of buying nice furniture only to re-sell it for a fraction of the cost
  4. Buying used or unattractive furniture on the cheap.

Last June, a company called Pacific Orientation introduced another option to furniture-seeking expatriates: Rent the furniture you need, when you need it. A novel idea, right? And it’s so easy:

Four steps to renting furniture in Thailand

  1. The tenant browses the furniture collection and contacts Pacific Orientation
  2. Then tenant’s requirements are discussed and a package that best suits his or her needs is suggested.
  3. A contract for monthly payments is agreed upon and signed
  4. The furniture is delivered from the Bangkok warehouse and arranged by the movers.

But really, who rents furniture? Here are the top ten reasons to rent furniture as an expat

  1. Have more flexibility to live exactly where you want, even if the apartment you love most doesn’t come with furniture.
  2. Enjoy using nicer furniture than you could have afforded if you had bought.
  3. Save yourself the time and trouble to go shopping for new furniture when you have a million other things to do.
  4. If you’ve already shipped your furniture to your new home, you don’t have to live in furniture-less apartment while you wait for it to arrive. You can rent for the meantime and won’t have to lift a finger.
  5. Avoid the typically hefty sunken costs of shipping furniture. Enough said.
  6. It’s more than furniture. You can rent everything from quality pots and pans, to cleaning supplies to a welcome basket with household necessities like toilet paper or shampoo.
  7. Arrange pre-delivery to start living in your new place the minute you walk in.
  8. Forget worrying about depreciation of your furniture. The company you rent it from will take it back whenever you stop needing it.
  9. Take advantage of flexible rental terms. You can easily rent from one month to five years.
  10. It’s ok if you don’t like what you selected. With rentals, you can test out any item from the large range of high quality furniture available at any time.

Currently, the only company that’s doing furniture rental in Thailand is Pacific Orientation.

Having fulfilled a huge demand, Pacific Orientation is now celebrating a very successful first year in business. Backed by CORT, the world’s largest furniture rental business, and offering highly competitive rates, Pacific Orientation is already well established and able to provide a wide variety of furniture rentals to expats and locals located all over Thailand.
